Bedside clocks, made by Odokee

The hours nobody sees are the ones we build for.

Odokee makes five things and nothing else: a big-digit clock you can read without glasses, a dual-alarm clock whose dimmer goes all the way to black, a sunrise light that starts before any sound does, a Qi certified charging clock radio, and a sound machine that charges a phone while it runs. Twenty-six of them, in thirteen colours.

The hour before you mean to sleep

The UE268S is the one machine on this list that does its work before you close your eyes: twenty-one sounds, a real speaker, and a charging pad so the phone can be put down instead of held.

Three colours, all the same machine inside.

The dial that goes all the way to black

The UE218 is our oldest clock and still the most reviewed. Its dimmer is not a switch with two positions: it is a continuous dial, and the bottom of the dial is a display that is genuinely off.

Two independent alarms, a weekday, weekend or every-day pattern for each, and a USB port on the back.

05:00How we build

A short line, run slowly, changed only when there is a reason

The UE218 is the oldest clock we make and it is still on sale in six colours. That is the whole philosophy: work out what a bedside clock has to get right, get it right, and then leave it alone except when a customer tells us something we did not know.

Where the range came from

Odokee started with one complaint we heard over and over: the clock on the nightstand is either too bright to sleep next to or too dim to read. Everything else, from the two alarms to the USB port to the battery backup, came later. The first thing we solved was the dimmer, and it is still the part we argue about most.

The UE218 was the answer: a continuous dial rather than a two-step switch, running from full brightness to a display that is genuinely off. It is the clock in this range with the most reviews behind it, and every change to it since has been small: a white LED option because people asked, a wood-grain shell because a black box does not suit every room, an RGB display because two people in one bed do not always agree about colour.

How a new line gets started

Four lines have joined it since. The U2 came from people who told us they could not read 1.6-inch digits any more and did not want to put their glasses on to find out whether it was 4 a.m. or 6 a.m.; we went to two inches and put every button on the front face so nothing has to be found by feel. The H03 came from the opposite end of the night, where the request was not for a louder alarm but for a quieter one, so we built a light that starts up to an hour early and made the sound optional. The UE268 and UE268S came from the cable problem: four devices on one nightstand, three of them plugged in.

A line only ships when it does something the others cannot. That is why there are five and not fifteen, and why the spare cord for the H03 exists as a product at all: a clock that outlives its power adapter should not become rubbish over a two-metre cable.

What a dedicated clock still does better

We are not going to pretend a phone cannot tell the time. The honest comparison is narrower than that, and it is the one below: what happens in the specific minutes when you are half awake and the room is dark.

A phone will do most of this. What it will not do is stay a clock. The rest of the table is why we still build the small machines.

06:00Quality and materials

Seven parts, and why each one is what it is

There is no exotic material in a bedside clock, and we are not going to invent one. What there is instead is a short list of decisions, each of which changes how the thing behaves at two in the morning. Here is the list, in full.

0%

The bottom of the dial

On the UE218, UE268 and UE268S the display dimmer reaches nothing at all. Not “low”. Off.

30–110

Decibels, adjustable

The alarm ramps from quiet to the level you set, so nobody is jolted awake by the first second of it.

Digit height on the U2

Chosen so the time reads at three to four metres without correction.

What the range is made of
PartWhat it isWhy it is that
ShellInjection-moulded ABS with a matte finish, in seven colourways across the rangeMatte does not throw the display back at you off a lamp; gloss does
DisplaySeven-segment LED behind a smoked filterA filter that dark keeps the unlit segments invisible, so the digits read as digits and not as a grid
DimmingFive discrete steps on the U2, a continuous 0–100% dial on the UE218, UE268 and UE268SA dial is the honest answer for anyone whose lowest usable brightness sits between two steps
Speaker5W full-range on the H03, 10W stereo on the UE268 and UE268SRain and brown noise need low-end reach; a buzzer does not
Charging padQi certified coil rated at 10W, under a fabric topFabric conducts no heat into the phone and hides the coil
FabricSpeaker-grade knit over the UE268 and UE268S bodiesIt absorbs a little of the room instead of ringing
BackupA 2×AAA or 3×AAA compartment, batteries not suppliedThe alarm still fires through a cut; the display stays dark to make the cells last
CordCaptive 5V or 9V adapter, 4.9 ft on the UE218Long enough to reach a floor socket behind a bed frame

Battery backup keeps time and the alarm during an outage. It is a backup, not a power source: the display stays off and the cells are not meant for daily running.

The rear panel of a UE218 clock showing the barrel jack, USB port and alarm switches

The part we test hardest

Every one of these clocks is a light source that lives four feet from a sleeping face, so the thing we check most is the bottom of the brightness range, not the top. A display that is bright enough is easy. A display whose lowest setting is still too bright is the single most common reason a bedside clock ends up in a drawer, and it is the criticism we take most seriously, including in our own reviews, where one owner tells us the gap between the U2’s lowest two steps is bigger than it should be. That is a fair note, and it is the reason the newer lines use a continuous dial instead of steps.

The second thing we check is the alarm ramp. An alarm that arrives at full volume in its first second is not a louder alarm, it is a worse one. Every Odokee alarm starts below the level you set and climbs to it.

06:30Certification

One badge we name, and the ones we will not

Certification marks are easy to imply and hard to earn, so here is exactly what we claim and what we do not.

Qi certified, and what that actually means

The charging pad on the UE268 and UE268S is Qi certified. That certification is run by the Wireless Power Consortium, an industry body, through independent test laboratories; only a product that passes may carry the logo, and the Consortium keeps a public database so anyone can check a specific model rather than take a seller’s word for it. What it certifies is safety and interoperability: that the pad behaves correctly with any Qi phone, not that it is fast.

We rate those pads at 10W. Baseline Qi delivers 5W and the extended profile goes to 15W, so 10W sits in the middle: quicker than a basic pad, slower than a good cable. One owner in our reviews below says exactly that, and they are right. If you need a phone to go from empty to full in an hour, use the cable; the pad is for a phone that sits there for eight hours anyway.

What we do not claim

Qi is the only certification mark we name, and the paragraph above is the whole of what it means. Our clocks are consumer electronics. They are not medical devices, therapy lamps or treatments for any condition. A sunrise light is a lamp on a timer: a pleasant way to wake up, and for some people a considerably better one, but not a clinical intervention, and we will not sell it as one.

Not medical advice. Nothing on this site is medical advice. Sunrise lights, sound machines and alarm clocks are consumer products, not treatments. If you are dealing with insomnia, a sleep disorder, chronic fatigue or a change in sleep you cannot explain, talk to a clinician. The sources we read below are a starting point, not a substitute for one.

07:30About the brand

The company behind the clocks

Five lines, twenty-six items, one job each. What that narrowness means for the person choosing between them.

A narrow catalogue on purpose

Odokee makes bedside clocks. Not smart home hubs, not speakers that happen to show the time, not a range that stretches into kitchen scales because the factory had capacity. Five lines, twenty-six items including one spare power cord, and every one of them exists to solve something that happens in a bedroom between eleven at night and seven in the morning.

That narrowness is the most useful thing about us. A company with four hundred products cannot tell you why the dimmer on its clock has five steps rather than a dial, because nobody there made that decision on purpose. We can, because we only make five things, and because the Odokee range have been in front of the same set of customers long enough to hear what goes wrong.

What the numbers say

Across the current range, 15,698 ratings sit behind our five lines, averaging 4.3 out of five. We count those the honest way: a rating pool belongs to a product family, not to a colour, so seven shades of the U2 contribute one pool of 4,416 and not seven copies of it. Sites that add colours together produce impressive totals that mean nothing.

The five lines, by the size of the rating pool behind each
LineModelColoursPriceRatings behind itRating
Big-Digit Bedside ClocksU27$15.99 to $21.994,4164.5 / 5

Wireless-Charging Clock RadiosUE2684$44.991,5324.2 / 5
Sound Machine ClocksUE268S3$52.99 to $54.098354.3 / 5

Rating pools are counted once per family, so seven shades of one clock contribute one pool rather than seven.

How a decision gets made here

Almost everything in this range came from a complaint rather than from a specification. The dial on the dual-alarm clock exists because a two-step dimmer left too many people between settings. Two inches of numeral on the big-digit line exists because 1.6 inches turned out not to be enough for readers who take their glasses off before bed. The silent wake mode on the sunrise light exists because somebody wrote to say their partner got up ninety minutes later and hated them for it.

The pattern is always the same: a small, specific irritation, described by somebody who owns the thing, that a redesign can remove. That is why we have never launched a line to fill a gap in a catalogue. A gap in a catalogue is a commercial idea. A dimmer whose lowest setting is still too bright is a real problem with a real answer, and one of the two makes a better clock.

What we do not do

We do not make the sale here. This site is where the range is described, photographed and explained; the transaction, the payment, the delivery and the returns all happen at checkout with our retail partner, and the eighteen-month warranty is honoured through them. We say so in the footer of every page and again in the disclosure, because a brand site that hides how it earns is a brand site you should not trust.

We also do not invent a heritage. There is no founding year carved into a beam here, no photograph of a workshop we do not own, no claim to a patent we do not hold. What we have is a short catalogue, a long rating history, and a set of decisions we are willing to explain: the dimmer, the ramp, the two alarms, the battery that keeps time but not the display.

Where to start

If you cannot read your current clock, start with the U2. If your current clock is too bright, start with the UE218 and its dial. If mornings are the problem rather than nights, start with the H03 sunrise light. If your nightstand has four cables on it, start with the UE268 or the UE268S. And if you already own an H03 and only the cord has failed, that is a nineteen-dollar part, not a new clock.

08:00Owners

What owners tell us

Nine owners, in their own words, including two who are not flattering about us. A page of nothing but five stars tells you nothing at all, and the two critical ones are about the settings we argue over most: the bottom of the dimmer, and how fast a wireless pad really charges.

Nice size, not too bright and easy to program. Glasses shown for size comparison…

Wow! What a nice alarm clock. Slender design, large numbers. So easy to read without being too bright. Very easy to program and particularly like the adjustable choice of alarm and sound volume. Comes well packaged with 18 month warranty.

Love, love, love this clock. The numbers are big so it is so easy to read without my glasses. I love that it is dimmable so it isn't abrasively bright at night. The size is perfect and it is so easy to set. Highly recommend! I bought a second; not sure where I'll put it yet.

A great alarm clock that dims

A great little alarm clock. We prefer not to have phones in the bedroom so this is a good alternative. The feature that sold us was the ability to completely turn off the light of the clock. It helps keep the room dark for sleeping.

Really great alarm clock

I wanted an alarm clock with red numbers and the option to wake up to music. The problem with FM radio stations is that they can be staticky and don't always come in clearly. What I liked about this clock is that it offers soft music as a preset alarm sound.
